Don’t fight boredom, use it as a tool
It unlocks your superpowers
When was the last time you were actually bored? For me it went back to the days where I was a kid during summer vacations with too much time and not enough stuff to do.
Nowadays boredom is easily replaced by cheap dopamine shots. The phones in our pockets, video games and tv shows are a quick way to distract our minds and keep it busy.
With everything going on our minds are working 24/7 and the only quiet time they have is when we’re laying in bed. (Also the time you want to shut it off and go to sleep)
Boredom is always looked at like a villain. It’s said to make us restless, frustrated and well, nobody likes being boring.
But boredom gives you some time and space to think and reflect on a deeper level. To be creative and come up with solutions. It gives you the ability to assess certain aspects of your life situation.
The best breakthroughs often happen when our mind isn’t busy. It’s free to think and explore certain problems and solutions.
‘The greatest threat to success is not failure but boredom’ - James Clear
Another strong reason to train yourself to embrace boredom is that life is not always fun. Especially when working towards big goals.
The best athletes train and repeat the exercises very little day. The most successful CEO's do repetitive tasks every day. They do it because they know it'll grow their business.
To build something great it requires determination, consistency and repetition. Everybody will get bored at some point. The key is to keep going no matter how you feel and push through to get the results you want.
These are the things I’m working on and hope you’ll try them to:
Find some moments of quiet and boredom. Go outside for a walk without your phone. Try to meditate for a few minutes without anything. Or, stare at a wall every so often.
It will bring your mind some peace and can help you on your breakthrough moments. Instead of fighting boredom, use it as a tool to propel your life forward.
Keep improving 👊
